Margaret- My mother had her first and only child, me, at the age of 42. She dealt with painful and crippling RA from the age of 28 until she died last year at the age of 69. The only time she wasn't in pain was during her pregnancy. Unfortunately, she was never diagnosed with HMS as well. Reading this BB it is obvious that she had HMS and that it accounted for a great deal of her pain. I have my Mom's jointsr and can contort most of my body, but have not tested positive for RA so am glad that there is a name for my own pain and problems with dislocations. I feel better just knowing I am not alone. I am not surprised that you wee free of pain while pregnant, but would also be curious if this is common with RA and/or HMS.
: I know that I have joint hypermobility. I also have been diagnosed as having "some type of rheumatoid arthritis" but only my knees have been affected. In August, 1997, I gave birth to a son. During my pregrancy the inflamation in my knees almost disappeared completely but now has returned worse than before. I really want to understand what is going on with my joints. If my inflamed and swollen knees are a result of hypermobile joints would the symptoms disappear during pregnancy?
